Mr Litten will be writing a weekly newsletter,  with the  aim to share with you all that is good about our school and its children.

 Dear Parents, Carers and Pupils,

As I write this, I am on a three-day residential with Year 4 at Burwell House, near Cambridge.  We are having a brilliant time - for the children it is one big ‘sleepover’ with all of their school friends.  Very happy memories are being made.  There are lots of photographs on the school’s X account.

Year 3 Ancient Egypt Day

Our Year 3 pupils had great fun dressing up as ancient Egyptians for the day.  A huge thank you to their families who fully supported this experience.  The outfits were just brilliant and meant so much to the children.

The children spent the morning learning about different jobs in Ancient Egypt and how land was managed along the river Nile by farmers. The children really enjoyed making jewelry.  They also made different types of amulets from clay and learned about their meaning.

During the afternoon, the children learnt about the different foods Ancient Egyptians ate and what they did for entertainment. In small groups, the children loved playing the games Senet and Mehen.

The children finished their day taking part in some ancient Egyptian dancing and learning to read and write in hieroglyphs - they even managed to decode a message from the Pharoah!

A big thank you to the Year 3 teaching team for organising a memorable day at school.  It takes a lot of extra time and effort to go above and beyond for the children!

Friends of Park Lane School (FOPLS)

Please remember our next meeting is after school on Monday 30th of September.  Please come along to the school office and we will be there to welcome you.  Children are welcome to sit and listen, play quietly.  Meetings do not last too long.  We will be planning future events.  Hope to see you there.

Police Visit

Year 3 children really enjoyed and benefitted from a visit by two local PCSO’s.  Mrs Chisholm invited them to school to talk to children about risky and safe choices in their homes, in school and in the community.

The children asked some really mature questions and were very keen to learn from our two visitors. Hopefully, they will remember the police visit and make right choices and safe choices.

We are very thankful to Cambridgeshire Constabulary for helping us in this way.

Burwell House

Year 4 pupils had an amazing time at Burwell House.  Campfires, shelter building, clay work, making their very own weather forecast, and lots of fun games that encourage teamwork and positivity!

We love residentials at Park Lane – they are loved by staff and children and make a valuable contribution to the children developing into wonderful people.

A huge thank you to the parents for allowing their children to go on the trip and to the staff for volunteering to do 18-hour days – fortunately, they have as much fun as the children do!

The Whittlesey Charity - helping with the cost of a residential

The Whittlesey Charity has awarded the school a small grant which we can use to pay half of the cost of a residential visit.  We do not want any child to miss out for financial reasons.  If you would like financial assistance with the cost of a residential trip, please contact me via the school office.
